The program is designed as a tool for the development of full-time and part-time represented employees interested in attaining a management or associate level career.
Each two-hour workshop is intended to equip participants with the knowledge and skills critical to business needs, as identified through the Sempra Leadership Competencies.
This program operates after regular business hours from 5PM - 7PM. All coordinators, facilitators and attendees participate on a volunteer basis. Courses are held either in-person or virtually depending on the topic. There are five regions operating systemwide located at the Chatsworth, Anaheim, Compton, Monterey Park, and Redlands headquarters.

To graduate from the Management and Associate Preparation Program (MAPP), participants should complete at least (6) required courses and (3) elective courses totaling (9) modules. Participants must attend the virtual or in-person workshop in its entirety.- For in-person offerings, participants must sign in with the session coordinator or facilitator from the region where they attended the workshop.
- Participants are to be respectful to all attendees.
- Participants are to abide by the housekeeping rules for the workshop.

- What is the Management and Associate Preparation Program (MAPP)?
The Management and Associate Preparation Program (MAPP) provides represented employees with foundational skills pertaining to the Sempra Leadership Competencies. By mastering the competencies, employees will be prepared with specific capabilities to help them in their pursuit of a management or associate level career.
- What if I am a non-represented employee who was previously enrolled in the Career Enhancement Program (CEP)?
If you were enrolled in the Career Enhancement Program prior to the changes, you have received credit for the courses previously completed. To view your previously completed courses, please visit My Learning and view the completed portion of your transcript (i.e. HREXT001 Career Development).
For additional development opportunities available to non-represented employees visit the SoCalGas University site.
- What if I am a represented employee who completed courses prior to the changes in program requirements?
Certain previously offered courses will count toward the new requirements needed to complete the program. For a complete list, please see the course equivalents below.
Please note that no action is required to receive credit for those courses previously taken.
- Where are in-person classes held?
In person classes will be held at one of our six region locations: Anaheim, Chatsworth, Compton, Lancaster, Monterey Park, and Redlands.
- Am I only allowed to attend courses offered by my region?
No, participants in the program can attend courses in any of the six regions.
- How do I register for classes in My Learning?
- Access My Learning.
- In the search, enter Management and Associate Preparation Program (MAPP) and select "Open Curriculum."
- Select "Required" or "Elective" to view the courses available in each portion of the curriculum.
- Choose your desired course, then click "Select Session" to choose the in-person or virtual session you'd like to attend.

In-person and virtual sessions are facilitated by non-represented employees.

Employees interested in facilitating an upcoming session should reach out to the region contact(s) in the area they are looking to facilitate or send an email to SoCalGasU@semprautilities.com.
- What are the MAPP support roles and how do I get involved?
The three (3) MAPP support roles include:
Region Contact: Individuals who serve as the primary liaison for the program manager(s) and participants. Their role involves communication of program information, addressing local needs, and ensuring smooth coordination between the program and participants in that region.
Champions: Management employees that play a key role in supporting and driving the success of the program.
Ambassadors: Represented and management employees that have completed MAPP. These employees have a significant role in promoting the program.

- Project Management for Beginners (Deliver Results) (Required)
Managing a project can be an overwhelming task. There are often many moving parts to a project and many people who are either working on the project or have an interest in the outcome of the project. This course will help you learn the basics of project management, including tools and principles, so you can effectively and efficiently manage projects to a successful outcome. By the end of this course, you will be able to:- Describe what a true project is.

Change creates the need to move from the way things used to be to the way they are now. The transition can happen slowly or quickly. - Conflict Resolution at Work (Exercise Good Judgement) (Required)
Conflict is inevitable in the workplace. If conflict is ignored or handled poorly it can lead to bad decisions, disputes, and increased tension in the work environment. But conflict can and should be resolved. Properly resolving conflict can bring issues to light, strengthen relationships, and spark creativity and innovation. In this course you will learn about the skills needed to properly resolve conflict in a way that is fair to all parties involved in the conflict. A resume can be your first impression on a hiring manager. This course will provide the foundational elements needed to customize a resume that will give you a competitive edge. By the end of this course, you will be able to:- Utilize a resume style that fits your experience.

- Write a professional summary that highlights your skills and experience.
- Public Speaking (Part 1) (Elective)
Everyone encounters a situation where public speaking skills are necessary. It could be at work, school, or even in your personal life. Whether you are looking for tips on conquering stage fright or looking to improve your public speaking skills, this course will highlight the impacts of great public speaking. There are 3 roles that provide individuals with an opportunity to support the program. Below you will find a description of each role and the specific responsibilities.
Region Contact: Region Contacts are individuals who serve as the primary liaison for the program manager(s) and participants. Their role involves communication of program information, addressing local needs, and ensuring smooth coordination between the program and participants in that region.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Serving as the point of contact for employees that reach out with specific MAPP questions (Region contact's name will be on the MAPP website.).
- Attending quarterly meetings.
- Securing necessary resources such as:
- Reserving large rooms for in-person classes.
- Identifying / coordinating facilitators on classes within your specific region (Works with program manager.).
- Working with local management to order food for in-person sessions.
- Co-facilitating sessions.
- Encouraging collaboration among participants and others involved in the program.
* This role is voluntary, but we ask for a commitment of at least one year with the option for the role to be ongoing. Since there is much coordination involved, it would be best to have stability in this role.
Champions: Champions are management employees that play a key role in supporting and driving the success of the program.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Promoting the program to other employees.
- Answering employee questions about the program.
- Attending quarterly meetings.
- Providing feedback on changes/enhancements to support program growth.
- Co-facilitating sessions.
- Encouraging collaboration among participants and others involved in the program.
* This role is voluntary and can range from a few months to a year, or even an ongoing commitment depending on the individual's interest and availability.
Ambassadors: Ambassadors are represented and management employees that have completed MAPP. These employees have a significant role in promoting the program.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Engaging with current and prospective participants by answering questions and providing information (i.e. Speaking at morning meetings about the program and opportunities.).
- Working with supervisors to post the schedule, announcing upcoming classes, or any additional info as it relates to the program.
- Reviewing MAPP quarterly updates from the program manager (Management and associates only.).
* This role is voluntary, and the employee's commitment would be dependent on the individual's interest and availability.
